A great walk around the Kentmere Horseshoe. The weather was stunning; crisp and clear. Although fairly long the views today made the time fly.
The initial ascent to Yoke is gentle, with good paths all the way. There is no scrambling to speak of. As you can see from the photographs there are views from the Irish Sea on one side to beyond the Eden Valley on the other.
Be aware that as you reach the top of the Garburn Pass there is a path to the right that follows the wall to Yoke. Don’t take this path as it’s pretty poor, but more importantly it will obscure some fantastic views to the west. Instead, continue for approximately 300 metres before turning onto the main Yoke path.
I didn’t wear crampons today, but it was a close call on some on the north facing slopes, especially the descent of Ill Bell. It’s certainly getting to that time of year again.
It’s easy to see why this is such a popular walk; it’s not too strenuous considering the distance and ascent, and on a clear day the navigation is fairly simple. Highly recommended!
