After a great night at the Wasdale Head Inn and a lovely breakfast I began my epic climb to highest point in England! Proper winter conditions from just past Sty Head all the way until well below the summit of Scafell Pike on the descent. A very enjoyable climb but definitely a slog in places, the thick snow not quite frozen enough to support the weight of an adult.
Going via Sty Head is less brutal than using the tourist track past Lingmell. It also has much better views, but today the clag was down and I couldn’t see anything from the higher slopes.
Still, a fantastic walk and a very memorable 50th birthday.
