Very wintry walk today; blowing a gale on the tops and very cold. Hard going where the snow was deep but easier on the icy and less snowy sections. The walk from Little Hart Crag to Middle Dodd was particularly hard going as the snow was very deep in places. I’m sure it would be very different in summer!
There’s nothing too technical and no scrambling but the climb to Red Screes, from either Middle Dodd or direct from Little Hart Crag, is pretty steep. Navigation is easy as you can see all the summits once you get to Scandale Head.
The views from Red Screes are exceptional, with the Coniston Fells and most of the western Lake District in view; well worth the walk!
