Truly horrendous weather conditions for today’s walk! 50 mph+ winds, rain, snow, ice, clag; not great!

It started off OK as I left the car, Arnison Crag visible and the cloud down at around 500 metres. It got steadily worse throughout the day.

This is quite a tough walk in any conditions, with plenty of ascent and some scrambling and scree thrown in for good measure. There are some fantastic views from Fairfield when the clag isn’t down, so it’s worth waiting for a clear day.

Had the weather been better this would probably of rated a 6 for enjoyment; the route isn’t ideal, but was devised so I could bag Hartsop Above How and Arnison Crag in one walk. You would be far better off sticking to the Fairfield Horseshoe!
